Read Across America

2007

Students at Central School took part in many activities to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Read Across America.  We celebrated Dr. Seuss's birthday on March 2, 2007 and also during the entire week.  On March 1, with the support of the Kiwanis Club, we had a pancake supper to give the gift of reading to Central Students.  The First Lady of Nebraska couldn't be with us because of the snow, but we had a special visitor in a tall red and white hat attend instead!  The pancakes were great and books were purchased for students through the admission fee.  On March 2, the Mayor of Fairbury, Gene Mueller, read to the all school assembly.  He read And To Think That I Saw It On Mulberry Street.  The children sang the Read Across America song for the Mayor.  We had a lunch of green eggs and ham, had guest readers from the community come to each classroom to read a Dr. Seuss book and had another visit from the Cat in the Hat!  It was a great celebration!  We are proud to be readers all year long!
